DESCRIPTION: Tafresh dozar, 4’3” x 6’, dating to about 1900, from a village about 100 km east of Hamadan, in western Iran. The weave is much like that of village rugs from the Hamadan area, with symmetric knots on a cotton foundation, but knotcount is quite a bit higher. The ascending design of birds within shrubs fits right into Iranian design tradition, but this particular pattern may be European-inspired. Very good color, with a characteristic coral used for the border; in excellent condition and complete. There are no guard borders, which makes for a nice border/field contrast
